You know that we were meant to be more than just friends, just friends I let a song go out of my heart Believe me, darlin', when I say I won't know sweet music until you return some day I let a song go out of my heart Believe me, darlin', when I say I won't know sweet music until you return some day I Let A Song Go Out Of My Heart is one of my top five favorite tunes from the Ellington orchestra, and Charlie Byrd's version is my all time favorite. Charlie changes the melody's rhythmic structure somewhat and to my ears it's an improvement, similar to a better frame for the Mona Lisa. What makes this tune so special is the tight interaction of Charlie's trio. I usually don't try to transcribe bass lines, but the bass part is wonderful and just as important as Charlie's guitar, if that is plausible. I did not attempt to transcribe the drum part as there were no solos and only spare drum fills. This tune comprises a solo guitar intro, chorus statement, an improvised chorus by Charlie, 1/2 improvised chorus by Joe Byrd on bass, and Charlie returns at the bridge to take the song out with an extended ending. About the only technical problem one might find is Charlie's rasqueado on a G7 chord near the end of the second chorus. Charlie played this type of rasqueado two ways: Holding his index finger with his thumb like a pick with rapid up and down strokes, Or with the side of his middle finger, a somewhat more subdued version. I'm not sure which he used here.c0 %).38Charlie Byrdrdc1 %).38Chords/Timingr c 05:?DJoe Byrdcb(0#!*"'/+44444Drums001103110000=1079B9:99<8F300P041S0/00000000000001:@1/111103'::::H<1000010o0020000000008V0000000Page &p / &n&c&2&t &c&6&s &r&3&m &r&3&t - &3&s
